Travel, Tourism, Hospitality, Retail and Event Management Conference

The School of Sport and Service Management’s annual Travel, Tourism, Hospitality, Retail and Event Management Conference took place this month.

The event was attended by pupils currently studying similar subjects at local sixth form colleges, as part of the Compact Plus Progamme, and gave them an opportunity to visit the university’s Eastbourne campus and learn more about higher education.

They day had a full programme of talks and activities which included presentations on the subject areas as well as employability. Student ambassadors gave a talk on ‘student life’ and were on hand throughout the day to answer questions.

One of the challenges was for students to produce a menu using resources from the Menu Museum and then present their ideas. The Menu Museum was set up by academics, Dr Ioannis S. Pantelidis and Ken Woodward, and is a repository of many different restaurant menus that can be used by both students and researchers.

The challenge was won by Central Sussex College, Crawley.

The day was a great success and we hope to welcome many of them back as University of Brighton students in the future.
