Students Investigate Store Formats
Third year undergraduate retail students visited London on a field trip to investigate store formats.
They started off in Brixton Village, an undercover market full of of quirky fashion, homeware and vintage boutiques, alongside a whole range of independent eateries.
Next stop was Carnaby Street to look at the Christmas windows at Liberty’s world famous department store. This year’s display of clockwork fairy-tale figures brought the viewer into a magical Christmas world of old-fashioned traditional displays.
Regent Street and the lifestyle store Anthropology brought us back to earth with the hubbub of Christmas shopping. The store exhibits excellent atmospherics through use of a garden wall and props to create visual merchandising magic.
A tour through Savile Row allowed students to peep into the designer workrooms below ground where tailoring is being practiced in its original form.
The final stop was Abercrombie and Fitch, Burlington Arcade, and Bond Street to see the luxury designer shops.
All in all a fun, but educational trip!
