Student and Staff successes – May 2016

Amanda BLABER has been made an Honorary Fellow of the College of Paramedics.

One of our Yr3 students in Physio, Florence ECCLESON, did a fantastic job running 2 workshops with Angela GLYNN and Julia MONTGOMERY (BSMS) to highlight the IP compassion research that we have been doing. Carol WILLIAMS (Public Health Nutritionist and Snr Lecturer Health Promotion & Public Health) co-led an experiential group work session on using photos in food research with colleagues from the Brighton and Sussex Universities Food Network (BSUFN) as part of Workshop on ‘Using the Creative Arts Methods to Improve Research and Dialogue on Food’, a joint BSUFN, Food Research Collaboration and Centre for Agroecology, Water and Resilience project at City University, on May 11th.

Natalie EDELMAN presented a poster at the International Union Against STIs world congress in Marrakech.

Charlotte RAMAGE won the Excellence in Teaching Award at the Facilitating and Empowering Learning Awards 2016.

Theo FOTIS recently participated in an International Panel on behalf of the Na-tional Commission for Academic Accreditation and Assessment (NCAAA) in Saudi Arabia, where we reviewed the BSc Nursing at the Dammam University. He has also been invited at the 12th World Congress of Nurse Anaesthetists, WCNA 2016, which will take place in Glasgow, Scotland, from 13-16 May, 2016 to present on Digital Nursing and Digital Health.

Maria BIRCH completed her MRes in Education and presented her education research at the Ottawa and Australia and New Zealand Allied Professions in Higher Education, Perth, Australia.

Bev DURRANT presented her PhD research at the World Podiatry Congress in Canada.

Stewart MORRISON was an invited speaker at Primary Care in Birmingham.

Simon OTTER was an invited speaker at the British Society of Rheumatology.

Rachel FORSS & Dao TUNPRASERT were successful in obtaining internal SHS grant funding. Rachel’s project is ‘Does increased wound exudate viscosity effect the absorption rate of exudate into wound dressings? Dao’s is ‘An exploration with newly-qualified podiatrists surrounding approaches to the assessment and diagnosis of posterior tibial tendon disorder’.

Lucy PITT, Claire COX and Kat THOMAS, three critical care nurses who were previously physical assessment and ICU module students, reported on the volunteer work they did with refugees in Greece. Lucy specifically highlighted the Physical Assessment Module as very useful for this type of volunteering.
