Cocktail making masterclass

International Hospitality Management BA(Hons) students were treated to a masterclass in cocktail making from graduate Sam Guarino. Sam works for celebrity chef Tom Kerridge at The Hand and Flowers – the only UK pub to be awarded two Michelin stars.

The session gave students the chance to practice their mixology skills as well as learn some valuable hints and tips from Sam. The students made a variety of cocktails, including an espresso martini and classic mojito, but were also shown how to adapt these classic recipes. Adaptions included non-alcoholic varieties made with fresh fruit sauces and syrups made from home grown fruits and cordials.

IMG_2171Sam spoke of his time at the University of Brighton and in particular the invaluable experience he gained through his placement year with Drake and Morgan. His placement included visits to vineyards and chateau’s in France as well as to bourbon producers in Tennessee.

Student Rachel commented on the masterclass: “I just wanted to say thank you for organising the session for us; I know that everyone thoroughly enjoyed it.

“It was great to meet some past students and be able to ask questions and see the kind of potential for us in a few years’ time.”
