Sport journalism lecturers land prestigious gig

Members of the Sport Journalism BA(Hons) course team have secured a prestigious job, editing a major academic work for cutting-edge publisher Routledge.

Co-course leaders Jed Novick and Rob Steen, together with visiting lecturer Dr Huw Richards, are co-editing the Routledge Handbook of Sports Journalism, a mammoth project that will showcase the work of eminent academics and leading journalists.

Jed, Rob and Huw have already worked as a successful team, co-editing the acclaimed The Cambridge Companion to Football (2013).

“We’re deeply honoured to land such a plum job,” said senior lecturer Rob. “In essence, we are assembling a history of sports journalism, something that, to our knowledge, has never previously been attempted.

“Dealing with so many contributors will be the trickiest bit, but we’re thrilled at the prospect of working on such a challenging project, in terms of both our students’ education and making a substantial contribution to a neglected subject.”
