Street Fair Volunteering for Events Student

Friday 27 November saw the annual Meads Magic Event take place in Eastbourne and despite a very rainy and windy outlook hundreds of people turned up to celebrate an early Christmas. The event is one of Eastbourne’s premier Christmas street fairs and final year International Event Management BA(Hons) student Lauren Sigrist helped ensure the event was a resounding success.

The event organisers once again put out a call for volunteers to the university to assistSanta with the event and Lauren offered to put the skills learnt on her course to good use. Lauren kept herself busy throughout the evening which included a visit from the Harvey’s Dray and horses, street traders, a school choir, a magician, stilt walker and of course Santa and his elves!

Course leader Graham Shephard said: “This is just one of the many events taking place in Eastbourne each year which we encourage our students to get involved with.

“One of the best ways to improve your employment prospects, in addition to your degree, is being able to demonstrate that you have hands-on experience.”
