Trend Spotting Field Trip
Final year Retail Marketing and Management BA(Hons) students travelled to London to visit an exhibition at the Victoria and Albert museum and spot retail trends throughout the city. The students were accompanied by their course leader, Hasan Gilani, who also organised the trip.
First stop was the Shoe: Pains and Pleasure exhibition at the V&A which exhibited the evolution and historic perspective of contemporary trends in shoe design. The exhibition features 200 pairs of shoes ranging from a sandal decorated in pure gold leaf originating from ancient Egypt to the most elaborate designs by contemporary makers.
Next the students walked towards Knightsbridge where they enjoyed observing the spectacular window visual display at Harrods, Harvey Nichols, Dolce and Gabbana, Valentino, and many more designer brands located on Sloan Street.
The students also enjoyed a walking lecture by our fashion retail academic Susan Bishop whilst walking in the streets of West London and spotting trends at Carnaby Street, Saville Row, Burlington Arcade, Regent Street and finally ending at Oxford Street where they observed windows displays from John Lewis and Selfridges.
This is just one of many field trips students can expect during their studies to enhance their learning experience.
