Hospitality students visit Varley Park
Continuing on a series of guest lectures and field trips second year International Hospitality Management BA(Hons) students took time away from the Eastbourne campus.
The trip took them to Varley Park, the home of ten University of Brighton halls of residences where they met with David Berry, Duty Manager, who graduated from the same course in 2005.
Dave spoke to the group about the day to day operational aspects of managing over 500 residences, two restaurants and leisure activities for the students on site. He also arranged for them to see the eco developments on the site such as the green grass roof and how the heating and water systems use the latest environmental technology.
Students also met with Kirsty Harris who is currently completing her years work placement with South Coast Conferences who are at Varley Park. Kirsty, who is studying International Event Management was managing a conference for 150 delegates and highlighted the benefits of the placement element of the course .
Kirsty is the second student to get a placement opportunity with South Coast Conferences and another will be stepping into her shoes when Kirsty returns for her final year.
