Volunteering adds to skills
Event students are encouraged to be proactive in getting volunteering experiences in the events industry during their course. Volunteering not only helps put learning into practise but looks great on a CV too.
Second year student Martin Kmiecik (far right in image) took full advantage of the opportunities and now has a range of volunteering experiences under his belt. Martin summarises one of his many experiences:
“In November 2013 I was successful in getting the role of Volunteer Coordination Manager for Pride.
“In order to deliver successful and safe event my duties ranged from developing safety barrier plans, including crossing points for participants, to recruiting, training, and coordinating whole volunteer teams on the day of the parade.
“We are currently, planning for Pride in London 2015 and I have changed my position at the organisation and am now Sponsorship and Fundraising Director.
“My main duties are to liaise, with our current sponsors, create and improve the strategy to increase the funds from local businesses, organize a number of fundraising events, in, and around London. The total amount of money we are planning to raise this year is £700,000.”
