Life after graduation

Our previous students have embarked on a wide variety of career paths following graduation with companies including Quaglinos, D&D London; Cisco Systems; Goldman Sachs; United World Games; Hilton; Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award. Some of the roles they have secured include as: production assistants; event managers, coordinators and assistants; PR account executives and managers; production and logistics manager.

Flora McTeare completed her course in 2014 and tells us what she has been up to since graduation:

“Having wanted to go to India since before starting university, a happy coincidental turn of fateFlora 1 involved graduating an opportunity to work at festivals in India came along. Not really knowing what to expect I packed myself off to Mumbai working with OML entertainment in Mumbai, the brains behind The Bacardi NH7 Weekenders (music festivals that occur in multiple cities across India).

“I was thrown straight into working as Assistant Technical Production Coordinator alongside a lovely team who made me feel very at home. In the build up to the festivals, my role involved technical breakdowns of bands’ riders, consolidating information, sitting in on meetings with vendors, scheduling and ensuring everything that each band needed would be onsite, and if not providing suitable substitutions.

“During the festivals I had to be on hand to solve any issues and provide support for the individual stage management teams. It was so interesting to see the way that music events are run in a completely different country to the UK, considering the vast cultural differences.

“When I think about how the course helped, I would say that there were things that I hadn’t even realised I had learnt at uni that I found I was putting into practice and coming up with solutions and answers for problems when they were posed by other members of the crew. I felt fully prepared to work in a completely new environment because of my knowledge of the industry in the UK.

Flora 2“Everyone was so interested in how we do things back home and due to the course I was able to go into great detail in giving them answers and also ideas for how perhaps they could improve on some areas to be more effective. I also found that I was quite often relating to the research I carried out for my dissertation.

“My experience in India with OML has been unforgettable; I’ve been able to explore a beautiful country and meet amazing people, including industry professionals from both India and the UK.”
