Inclusive Sports Festival 2014

On 16 September, 130 children with additional learning needs from seven schools in East Sussex attended the Inclusive Sports Festival at the School of Sport and Service Management in Eastbourne.

The day included activities such as Boccia, parachute games, sitting volleyball, goalball, dance and new age kurling.

The activities were taught by PGCE PE and Dance students and School Direct Trainee PE teachers.

Event organiser and principal lecturer Dr Gary Stidder said: “These type of events provide our trainee teachers with a firm grounding in inclusive practice in PE and it’s a wonderful opportunity for children to experience new and exciting activities.”

Tim Warren, PGCE PE student rep said: “This has really helped me to understand the nature and purpose of physical education and importance of planning for meeting the needs and interests of all pupils.”
