All aboard the Bluebell Railway
Students on the Tourism and Social Anthropology MA at the School of Sport and Service Management spent a day off campus to undertake fieldwork.
The students spent time at Beachy Head, Bateman’s (the home of Rudyard Kipling) and then took a ride on the Bluebell Railway. The students then took a tour of the ‘lansdscape’ of the railway which included the ticket area, museum and locomotive shed to carry out fieldwork to support their first assessment for the module Tourism, Landscape and Materiality.
The students were asked to consider things such as how the senses construct and mediate the tourist experience of the railway and how vistors engage with the ‘Bluebell experience’.
The Bluebell Railway trip is one of several the students will experience as part of the module.
