Physical Education class 50th reunion
Saturday 17 May, a gorgeous sunny day in Eastbourne, saw 35 former students return to campus for their 50th reunion.
The Physical Education class of 1964, led by alumnus Pearl Holt made their way back to the University of Brighton, Hillbrow campus where they studied at the then Chelsea School of Human Movement. Although all in their seventies, the spritely bunch showed off their moves and chatted away, giggling like school girls reliving their college days.
Faye Brown, Head of Alumni Engagement said, “It’s is wonderful that so many of the PE class of 1964 where able to make it back today. I’ve loved hearing about the mischief that they got up to whilst at university. We’re always keen to welcome our former students back and are delighted that we were able to assist in putting this reunion on for them”.
The guests enjoyed plenty of time to catch up and tours of the campus before heading for lunch in the university canteen (their old changing rooms!).
After lunch they were treated to a dance display by current students and introduced to the alternative activities that the current trainee PE teachers now learn to enhance inclusivity in sports and make them accessible for all. The activities included sports such as Kin-Ball, street surfing, Rock-It-Ball, goalball and even the Nintendo Wii.
Alumnus Pearl Holt said: Some of us have not seen each other for fifty years and so it is wonderful to catch up with everyone. We’ve had a wonderfully memorable day and the dance display was outstandingly good. Thank you to the University for making our reunion a huge success.”
