Ongoing Reflections

30/01/2020 – First Briefing for the project- For my FMP I’m working on my animation which mean for this project I will need to make a showreel and a website alongside my  CV and postcards. I worry that due to the time to take to make my animations and then planning my exhibit, will not leave me enough time to create a good enough showreel and website as I will need my animation to be finished to complete these tasks.

6/02/2020 – Using an exercise (SEE SKETCH BOOK) I was able to discuss my skill set and criteria I want to meet for looking for employment as well as companies I would possibility like to work for, which helped my start my research for my sketchbook.

13/02/2020-  In 2016 I established my branding Tell This Cat (A word play on my last name Cattell) I used this branding for a detachable collar brand that I designed and was embellished by machine embroidery. I am considering re-using this branding for my portfolio project as I hope to be able to mix digital animation and textiles designs in the future.

20/02/2020 – Lecture from Dani talking about archiving work and selecting work for Portfolio. This made consider my work throughout my University progress. Which has drastically changed I’ve always had a focus of moving media but my change from videography with exploring personal experience with eating disorder and body dysmorphia to digital 2d animation focusing on the effects of climate change on my local area. Thinking about how my past work doesn’t work with my branding that I’ve worked on. I also started reposting previous work on my @tellthiscat Instagram. I haven’t got a large following but planning when I can schedule in time to continually  post on Instagram.

5/03/2020 I Feel like I’ve been putting so much time into my FMP it has caused me to lack focus on my Portfolio project. I’ve been trying to plan scheduled post for my Instagram, using snippets from my final animation without spoiling the pieces to let my small audience know about my project and to gain knew followers.

12/03/2020 Tutorial with Mark. Discussed whether I should work freelance or work for a company and if I do work for a company whether my branding will still be relevant.

19/03/2020 (Covid-19) Because of Covid 19 university has closed.  I’ve found it hard to work around the uncertainty of not knowing what is going on.

26/03/2020  Lockdown has been announced meaning that my work has also closed. Me and my partner live in a studio flat with no garden and a small balcony, we are lucky that we can still go on walks, however I don’t live with my family (who are a 4 hour train away)

2/04/2020 – TEAM CALL outlined what I need to go Forward with this project.

Easter break- 2nd– 30th  For my Easter break I wanted to focus of working on finishing my first 3 drafts for my animation. Which will allow me time to work on my showreel later on in this project.

30/04/2020- I chose to dedicate this week on my portfolio project. I focused on finishing my Showreel, Website, postcard and business cards. Once my animation was finished, I was able to put together my showreel. I struggled getting the exact look for my website I kept looking at similar artists whose websites I enjoyed for inspiration but couldn’t replicate the feature I liked.

7/05/2020- Feedback from Mark allowed me to figure out what I didn’t enjoy about my website, as well as helping me simplify my business cards and postcards.

14/05/2020 – Making sure everything is finished to it’s best standards I’m pleased with my end results, but I feel like I’ve been focusing on this work for too long that I can’t progress any further. I am looking forward to taking a break from my branding,  so I can come back to it once the hand- in is over. I am planning to continue growing my brand and getting work from this.
