For Primary Research I Visited the Victoria and Albert Museum, here I was interested in the Japanese graphic design as this is related to my work as well as research for my dissertation.
I visited the Serpentine where Albert Oehlen work was being exhibited, what I drew me into his work was his use of colour, the mixture of black and white tonal pieces and dark colour tones and that his abstract work defied exiting artist’s work at the time he created. I also appreciated how his work shaped the architecture of the gallery.
I, unfortunately, visited Japan house in London when ‘Anno’s journey’ exhibition had ended as it was an exploration of illustrator Anno Mitsumasa journey, her illustrations included a mixture of traditional Japanese techniques and graphic style. She captured Japanese landscapes as well and British. Japan house next exhibit opens on the 21st of November which is “City lights and woodland shade” Its will be a digital immersive exhibition exploring Japan’s tech hub city Tokyo and the contrasting wooden roots of the traditional northern Japan which I am hoping to visit as I want to see the use of digital layouts and how to create immersive pieces of work.
