In our weekly seminars, we got the chance to view Daniel Buren’s The function of a studio. Viewing his thoughts i have learned that a studio/ space for an artist is there cave of ideas not to be touched by any others outside. Expect if the it helps keeps the doors open.
The studio is thus a convenience for the organizer: he may compose his exhibition according to his own desire (and not that of the artist, although the artist is usually perfectly content to leave well enough alone, satisfied with the prospect of an exhibition). https://eleco.unam.mx/en/the-function-of-the-studio/( page 2). With an exhibition setting it can create a sterilized experience that if given to the wrong organizer/ museum for your style ultimately becomes detrimental to the final piece. picking where to organize you vision is key.
with working online and through our blogs its gives me a space to breath and record my knowledge hopefully helping me in the future when coming to organizing my own styles of work in a museum/ exhibition setting.
As i gathered more knowledge for my fine art placement. I focused on why i personally like street art i concluded from reading: ( file:///C:/Users/Grant%20Kirkman/Downloads/Banksy_Banging_Your_Head_Against_A_Brick.pdf) Banksy quote “Graffiti is one of the few tools you have if you have almost nothing. And even if you don’t come up with a picture to cure world poverty you can make someone smile while they’re having a piss.”
― Banging Your Head Against a Brick Wall:
its the freedom that it can bring from not being controlled by a specific controlled environment.
{Thus chance is minimized, since the organizer has not only selected the artist in advance, but also selects the works he desires in the studio itself. The studio is thus also a boutique where we find ready-to-wear art.(The function of the studio, page58}. One day i dream to have my own studio but to keep it alive compromise helps.
All artist will compromise there vision for a brighter future whether being able to make more fulfilling art for yourself or helping others with a studio space to find theirs. Having the online blog has allowed me to contextualize why i like certain facets of art whether from the street corners showing whatever is needed for the people walking around there concrete jungles or from a well organised studio/exhibition.
