During our second paper making session, we learnt how to make paper. The process is shown below:
- Add shredded paper (1/3) and water (2/3) to a blender and blitz till smooth or the desired consistency (less blended = chunkier/coarser paper.)
- place into a large plastic container.
- Place the deckle in the paper pulp and then out and allow to drain before removing away from the container. There should be a thin even coverage unless you want thick paper! *A fat splatter could be used as an alternative to a deckle.
- Flip the deckle over onto a piece of cloth and use a damp sponge to help ease the paper pulp off.
- Once the paper is on the cloth, place another piece of cloth over the top, ready to repeat this process for making the next piece of paper.
- Allow your paper to dry for around 7 days before gently peeling away from the cloth!
Try adding glitter, cloth, wool, fur, tissue paper, paint etc to add another dimension to your paper!
