Summary
In a series of entries on Meet the Team we briefly get to know each of the GambLGBTQ+ project team a little better. This week it's Josetta (they/them) who is a peer researcher on the project.
What is your role in the project?
I’m Josetta (they/them) and I am a peer researcher for the GambLGBTQ+ research project, meaning that I am part of the communities that we are researching. My role is to facilitate the photovoice workshops and interviews with LGBTQ+ people.
What brought you to participating in the research?
I am an equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) trainer, consultant and doctoral researcher, with a background in mental health support, yoga, mindfulness and wellbeing. My PhD at University of Aberdeen is on Race and Trans Nonbinary Inclusion in Mindfulness, and creative research methods really interest me as a way to express experiences and raise awareness of the barriers and challenges for marginalised people. I specialise in training and consultation for and about LGBTQ+, trans and nonbinary, disabled and neurodivergent people and Black & People of Colour, so working on this under researched area with these groups is especially appealing.
What is your favourite place in Brighton & Hove?
I love my daily walk along the seafront, but walking anywhere out in the Downs feeds my soul.
What have you enjoyed reading and listening to at the moment?
I am a book fiend and am finally reading Salman Rushdie’s “Midnight Children” as my bedtime winddown, but out on my walks I like to listen to crime and sci-fi, especially if it is queer/Black authored. I also love podcasts on everything and anything from physical/mental health, psychology and neurodivergence, to politics, faith/religion and satirical comedy.
