Summary

In a series of entries on Meet the Team we briefly get to know each of the GambLGBTQ+ project team a little better. This week it's Laetitia (she/her) who is the co-Principal Investigator on the project.

What is your role in the project?

I am the Co-Principal Investigator on the GambLGBTQ+ study and responsible for undertaking the research on day-to-day basis with Alex, Matt and our partners at Switchboard and YouGov. I look after the contracts and the budget, I oversee the external facing communication, and I liaise with our funding body and our partners. As the study has 3 Phases, I am involved in each phase whilst co-producing some of the output.

What brought you to participating in the research?

As a member of LGBTQ+ communities both in Brighton currently and formerly in South Africa, I am keen to undertake research to the benefit of queer communities. Most of my research address the health inequalities of LBTQ+ people. As there can be barriers LGBTQ+ people face when they access healthcare, I do this research to ensure we can achieve greater health equity, longer term.

What is your favourite place in Brighton & Hove?

After the beach probably St Ann’s Wells Garden as I love walking amongst the trees or to play tennis at the garden courts.

What have you enjoyed watching on TV?

Ru Paul’s Drag Race is by far my favourite TV programme that I watch every year during the early parts of winter. As the participants are so talented, I love watching their transformation into colourful characters. What they do is a kind of performance art. I like their humour and what they do to trouble representations of gender.
