2/3/21 Formative tutorial

The purpose of this tutorial was to convey a clear outcome for our FMP and our intentions of how to get there. As I have already discussed, this week I questioned my original idea which led me to consider different possibilities.

I decided to leave the idea of publishing a magazine because I feel it conflicts my objectives by opening viewers up to comparison. Throughout my research I found that they best way to avoid comparison is to find your own alignment. This helps keep you on your own path without distractions from others.

I decided to invest in creating a piece of media which readers can personalise to fulfil their own goals and have physical evidence of their individual journeys. I described this as a self expression workbook/ journal, although when relaying this to my tutor It was bought to my attention that an app might an interesting outcome. I had already completed some notification pop ups which helped form this idea – found linked here: Notification

We discussed how my work finds the line between physical craft and digital techniques. An app may be a nice diffusion of the two mediums and makes sense because people who struggle with comparison would have devices capable of downloading apps.

The workbook idea could be incorporated into the app but essentially the app would include my notification pop ups to remind users about what really matters and to attempt to stop them comparing themselves online. The app would use friendly and casual language so that it is not intimidating. It could tell you when you are spending too much time online and give you suggestions of activities to do.

Today I am experimenting with Adobe XD to see if this idea is viable in the time limit set by this project. I have never used this software before and would like to test it before fully committing.
