Miscellaneous photography
The section includes a selection of miscellaneous photography of Finnish design goods from the Design Council’s picture library including packaging, jewellery, street furniture and textiles. In addition to these, also included are the Council’s exhibitions in Finland: The Government Stands at the British Trade Fair 1957, designed by Robin Day, FSIA and arranged by Helen M. Challen, ARIBA, for the Council of Industrial Design on behalf of the Board of Trade; the Design Centre Awards displayed in the department store OY Sokos AB in Helsinki opened on the 20 May 1960 by Vice-Admiral Sir Charles E. Madden Bt., C.B, coinciding with a British Week in Helsinki; a display of well-designed British goods on show at OY Stockmann AB department store as part of their centenary celebrations in March, 1962 and ‘London’s Design Centre’ exhibition at the Finnish Design Centre in Helsinki in 1970. Included are also portraits of Alvar Aalto, Antti Nurmesniemi and Simo Heikkilä.
