At this event, three alumni speakers (plus Lucy Smith) will have 20 minutes each to share their experiences of working for themselves and starting their own business in this informal sharing of knowledge and skills. Our brilliant speakers are:

6pm: Alice Liptrot

Alice Liptrot graduated from the University of Brighton in 2013 in Textiles specialising in Knit. She co-founded Country of Origin in 2014. Country of Origin is a knitwear brand blending traditional practices and sustainable approaches to create a modern, premium product. With a small team they create pop knitwear with an emphasis on strong colour palettes and high-quality yarns made at our factory in Wigston, Leicestershire.

6.20pm: Alice Kavanagh

Alice Kavanagh graduated from the University of Brighton in 2018. Alice is a freelance Textiles Artworker and Designer for digitally printed fabrics in the fashion, interiors and costume industries. Alongside this, she works as a Technical Demonstrator at the University. Since graduating in 2018, Alice has slowly been learning the ropes of working for herself and the world of freelance work.

6:50pm Camilla Stolerman

Camilla Stolerman graduated from the University of Brighton in 2013 and started working at Aquascutum that September. She was there for nearly 5 years, initially working as an Assistant Designer, then a Junior Designer and finally a Designer before leaving and setting up Camilla Bloom in 2018 with some savings. Camilla credit’s her desire for meticulous craftsmanship to her family’s history of carpentry and tailoring. Her design background is also in tailoring and outerwear, so she is exacting when it comes to detail and finish.
