Duncan Bullen, Deputy Head of the School of Art, University of Brighton

“We have been working for a while with colleagues at the Freelands Foundation to secure this exciting and innovative alumni fellowship scheme. Therefore, it is with great pleasure that this has come to fruition, and we are in a position to move forward to secure our first fellowship in Fine Art Painting. I’d personally like to thank colleagues in Painting, in our alumni office and at Freelands for all the hard work in achieving this award. This partnership has the potential to enhance our student experience, to provide opportunities for graduates and to place our students to be at the forefront of contemporary debates in Fine Art Painting.”

Alexander Pollard, Senior Lecturer, Fine Art Painting

“In these challenging times routes into art and academia are even more difficult to establish. The Freelands Foundation have understood this and have created an opportunity that helps artists at the start of their journey. This is a wonderful opportunity for aspiring painters who have graduated in Painting at the University of Brighton. I look forward to seeing the work they produce in their free studio and hearing about their new teaching experiences.”
