Swapping zines & drawing workshop – 06/10/22

Today we swapped zines with another person. It was really cool to see what someone else had created in the past week. Me and my partner both chose different texts so I’m excited to be working on a new text. I have made some notes of the ideas that I have for this zine, such as colours, layout and sizing. I’m looking forward to experimenting with someone else’s work and also seeing what someone else will create with my work.

Today there was also a life drawing workshop where we partnered up and drew each other in different ways, such as not looking at the paper and using our non-dominant hand to draw. Although I found this difficult and I wasn’t particularly happy with my outcomes, I still enjoyed this part of the workshop as it felt that there wasn’t as much pressure to produce a good drawing. In the next part of the workshop we created groups of 4 and, in our pairs, took turns drawing the other pair in different poses. These were longer drawings – around 10 minutes. I found this enjoyable but also difficult to draw everything in the time frame. I think I focused too much on the details rather than the whole figure. I tried to improve on this in the last part of the workshop. In this part we were in large groups where we posed in a scene for 15 minutes. When I was drawing I think I managed to capture most of the figures well without focusing on the small details. Overall I really enjoyed this workshop and I learned some things that I will try to incorporate in my future work.
