Children’s book collection visits Brighton

The School of Education’s Curriculum Centre is delighted and honoured to have been chosen to host a touring collection of 50 illustrated international children’s books from the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY). book coverThe books form part of the IBBY Honour List 2014 , a selection of books from IBBY member countries which are chosen to represent outstanding children’s books published in the last few years. There are three categories (writing, illustration and translation) and each member country can nominate one book which they believe represents the best title from their country for each of the categories. The Curriculum Centre, which is part of the Open Learning Centre in the Checkland building at the University of Brighton’s Falmer campus, has been lent the books from the illustrated category. The books offer a unique insight into the cultural, political and artistic diversity of countries around the world from Argentina to the United Arab Emirates. The books are being used in teaching sessions for School of Education students and will remain at the Curriculum Centre until the end of January 2016 before heading to Switzerland. IMG_0571 IMG_0549

This was a fantastic opportunity to see how other cultures are reflected in their children’s literature. Quite insightful. We are so lucky and privileged to have been selected, thanks to Lucy in the OLC.
