ADDITIONAL CONTENT

Graduate student speaker: Dr Tochukwu Ozulumba

*Live recording: 23.15 mins

Tochukwu (Tochi) Ozulumba was a full-time research student at the University of Brighton in the School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences, 2015-2020. During her time at Brighton, Tochi was one of our star PhD researchers and we were delighted to have her join us from the University of Virginia to speak to our new students at induction in October 2020.

In this recording, Tochi’s former supervisor, Dr Susan Sandeman, reflects on their supervisory relationship, recalling early meetings with Tochi and going on to see Tochi develop as a researcher in her own right. Tochi then takes us through her PhD journey, sharing her many highlights, including numerous awards, conferences, and a broad range of public engagement and science outreach work. For Tochi, even a period of serious illness becomes a highlight, offering an opportunity for reflection.

Full of practical advice, anecdotes, encouragement and warmth, this inspiring video is well worth 20 minutes of your time, whatever your scholarly discipline.

Tochi is currently working as a postdoc at the University of Virginia. You can find out more about her on her website.
