Welcome to Day 1 of the University of Brighton’s Doctoral College Induction – the start of your doctoral journey! Induction will take place on Microsoft Teams. Please book your induction place by Tuesday 05 October. If you encounter any issues or have questions about induction, drop us a line at DoctoralWorkshops@brighton.ac.uk.

*Preparatory task for Day 1: for our interactive session in the afternoon, please try to have with you an object that represents your research.

An Introduction to your Research Degree

An introduction to the Doctoral College, its staff, the student and supervisor relationship; an overview of the regulations and stages of your research degree; a guide to key digital platforms; and a guide to research ethics at Brighton.

Introducing your Research (interactive session)

Dr Mark Erickson (he/him), Director of Doctoral Studies, leads this session where you’ll be invited to talk informally about your research in small breakout groups.

Please have with you an object that represents your research. We ask attendees to switch their webcams on during this session so we can get to know each other and share our research objects. (This interactive session will not be recorded.)

We hope to see you tomorrow afternoon, Wednesday 13 October, for Day 2. We’ll kick off at 1pm with our all-important Research Plan Guidance workshop to support you in your first doctoral milestone. Following that, you’ll be able to find out more about university services and support, including libraries and IT, and opportunities for teaching.
