Welcome to Day 1 of the University of Brighton’s Doctoral College Induction – the start of your doctoral journey! New students who have registered to attend induction will receive a link to join the Day 1 Induction Teams group. Join codes will be issued for all further sessions. An introduction to the week’s programme and a quick guide to using Teams.

Don’t worry if you’re new to using Teams. We’ll talk you through the basics before induction begins. You can also familiarise yourself with Teams in advance by watching the short videos in this Digital Skills learning path curated by colleagues in Information Services.

An Introduction to your Research Degree

11.00-12.30 (includes a short break)

An introduction to the Doctoral College, its staff, the student and supervisor relationship, an overview of the regulations and stages of your research degree, and a look at what Covid-19 means for research students.

Introducing your Research (interactive session)

13.30-14.15

Dr Mark Erickson, Director of Postgraduate Studies, leads this session where you’ll be invited to talk informally about your research in small breakout groups. Please have with you an object that represents your research (details in your email invitation to register for induction). We ask attendees to switch their webcams on during this session so we can get to know each other and share our research objects. (This interactive session will not be recorded.)
