Angelica Pizzo, Extremadura: Spain’s forgotten region

Sunset over a lake in a deserted landscape

This photo portrays one of the landscapes that the region of Extremadura, Spain has to offer. I’ve taken this photo last December 2021 on an evening walk in nature, just outside the outskirts of the town of Miajadas. This photo not only portrays an incredible winter sunset, but it also portrays a marvellous landscape that represents my research in all of its aspects. After having visited the region oftentimes, my passion for its natural landscapes, biodiversity and rich historical heritage grew on me. I was most impressed of its remoteness, and also of the fact that it is unknown by many.

My research is aiming to determine the potential of slow tourism as a post-pandemic sustainable development strategy to be implemented in the region of Extremadura, Spain.

Extremadura is unique, remote laboratory through which this strategy will be examined as a conscious and responsible response to new post-Covid worldviews.
