Nike’s Digital Marketing Presence – Project Report


Digital Marketing (DM) is “the promotion of products or brands via one or more forms of electronic media. Some advertising mediums that are part of the DM strategy can be the internet, social media or billboards, amongst several others” (Business Dictionary, 2019).

The purpose of our assignment was to critically analyse the DM presence of any business of our choice. We would have to research the business’ website and performance, show why the business stands out in comparison to its competitors and come up with a number of arguments that we would advise the company to follow, so it can improve its DM strategy.

The first step to completing our group presentation was to form a group. Our group of six was initially split into two small groups of three each. Then we had to make up our minds and agree on what company we would base our task on. We decided to go with Nike and therefore analyse its presence in the sports footwear and retail industry.

Thorough research was necessary for the making of our assignment. We decided to follow the recommended template that was included in the assignment brief. It was handy that there were 12 topics to cover, so each one of us chose two and looked for information. To make it easier, we created a group on Outlook to be able to communicate with each other and share files without any problems. We also created the presentation through Outlook, so everybody could add their part, without having to send the file individually to each person every time something was changed. We gave ourselves a deadline of 7/10 days to make sure we all had time to start our designated tasks. After that, we would make sure that we all had included our topics in the shared presentation. This way we would know if we needed to quicken our pace or if any information was misleading in some way. Finally, I decided to download the presentation, to make sure all the fonts and words were in the same writing style and to add some pictures, so that the slides wouldn’t be too repetitive or monotone.

On the other hand, we did have some problems as well. Due to our busy schedules and being so many people in one group, we found it difficult to meet up and rehearse our presentation. Thankfully we managed to meet up twice before to ensure that our presentation would reach the 30-minute limit and that we all knew when to jump in to talk about our part, instead of ending up looking at each other cluelessly.

The whole experience of properly working in a team and coming up with different ideas has definitely given me a lot of knowledge on how to improve my social skills and planning skills. You have to learn to accommodate other people sometimes, instead of thinking about yourself only. While conducting research on Nike and its DM presence, it surprised me how much information one actually has to search for to get to where you want to get. This assignment helped me realise what I am like when working in a group. Overall, it was a group to work in and an interesting topic to explore in.
