Project title: Donor Research Project – Co-creating Educational Materials

The University of Brighton’s Donor Research Group was founded on the ambition to provide a platform where academics and students collaborate to address the organ shortage in the UK through targeted education. We are also support the Brighton Team for a national charity called We Are Donors (WAD), who aim to increase the number of organ and blood donors across the UK through student led education through school outreach. But their training documents needed digital enhancing.
Areej Al-Habsi, an undergraduate student from School of Art and Media, was selected as part of the Digital Learning Partner initiative to work with Simonne Weeks (School of Applied Sciences) and Rebecca Craig (School of Sports and Health Sciences) and their We Are Donor students, Joey (1st-year at BSMS and President of Brighton WAD) and Estella Brown (School of Applied Sciences – 2nd-year Biomedical Science and Vice President of Brighton WAD) to co-produce innovative and interactive educational materials using Nearpod ® .
Together, we supported Areej to develop skills to transform the training document for Brighton WAD PowerPoint ® into an interactive and innovated training and recruitment resource.
The work is currently being piloted with student users who will provide feedback on how the Nearpod ® training resources improved their confidence and capacity to do outreach and raise donation awareness in local schools of Brighton and Hove. But Arjee’s hard work has satisfied her clients, the President of the Brighton WAD.
It is hoped that the final digital training product will be showcased and used during Fresher’s Week, Belong at Brighton events and adopted by a national charity called We Are Donors. This project offered great CV attributes such as teamwork, networking as well as, communication and time management skills.
