The activity week started, the only information we were given beforehand was we will work together with students from other school and our activity will be from 9:00 to 17:00 every day. Thought it will surely be tough week and I went to the meeting point M21 design studio with feeling of little gloomy.
Once most AT student arrived in the studio, Hazelwick College and little after Chichester College students arrived. Then AT head lecturer Poorang introduced us client Chris and about the brief of the project. The project outline was to design demountable eco-cabin with £7000 budgets, which it needs to have comfortable space for four people including disable people.
Then we were divided to six groups consists three AT student and one or two students from each college. Our group, group number 4, group name Porrit had one student from Hazelwick and two from Chichester and placed Mr Sam as group leader.
At 11:00 we had lecture about the reuse of shipping container as an architecture, lecturer introduced us examples of container architecture and its advantage. I confused why we are having shipping container lecture but I took the lecture as one way of design method for this project.
After we all took one hour lunch, from 12:00, lecturer Noel Painting from UoB introduced us the cost, ability, flexibility of the shipping container usage. At this point I realised they are pointing us rough direction to not mess up at the designing phase.
At 16:00 we had group discussion about the design and role of the members. We had the idea of using fridge truck container, thus it already insulated and also the electricity work has already done. But after the research, fridge container has less flexibility and also expensive. After the consideration of the transportability, low badged and knowledge from the lectures, we decided to use the shipping container.
Design
Then we worked on the design of the container. The above sketches are what I designed, the aim was to create bigger internal area by cutting wall panel and make make a deck. Also cut up the roof panel to make the roof of the deck and then put the dividing panel or thermal resistance sheet as a wall of the extra spacicng.
I went to research about the dividing panel to enginearing block in UoB.
Due to low budget I gave uo this design.
The first day was introduction of this project. We got to work hard from tomorrow.
