Overview of Projects

NOTE: Images can be expanded by clicking on them

————————————————————————————————————————————————

This is the overview of projects page. This is were all my Gantt charts and mappings for the projects I have undertaken this year. This page also contains a basic overview of my three main projects, covering the objectives, some requirements, the aim and deliverables. To help plan out these projects a Gantt chart was used. This was good as you are able to break the projects down into individual tasks and plan out how long you were to spend on them. I also used a map, this would map out what tasks and work I had done towards different learning outcomes. This was good as I would see what learning outcomes needed more work in to broaden out this area and it showed me what learning outcomes I had a lot of work for.

Project aims

Project 1 – ME544 module aid: To provide information and resources about the Me544 module through the use of different formats to aid with study.

Project 2 – drawing machine: To alter a CNC machine so that it can be used as a drawing machine for testing G-code.

Project 3 – Blind Sensor Aid: To produce a device which blind people can use as an aid to detect and visualise items.

Project Objectives

Project 1 ME544 Module Aid:

  • Perform research to understand how to make profession leaflets, posters and videos.
  • Produce posters for each machine of the materials lab.
  • Produce an all in one excel spreadsheet for all laboratory session in the module.

Project 2 Drawing Machine:

  • Research and gain an understanding of how a CNC machine works.
  • Produce a range of solution to convert a CNC machine to a drawing machine.
  • Produce a rationale to determine the best solution for the drawing machine.

Project 3 Blind Sensor Aid:

  • Produce a professional questionnaire and evaluate the data, using excel, to find out what users would want from a blind sensor aid.
  • Construct a basic and functional colour detector as a basis for later developments.
  • Add to or alter the constructed colour detector to implement functions that blind users would want from the device (using questionnaire data).

Project Requirements

Project 1 ME544 module aid:

  • The resources and information should be widely accessible.
  • The resources and information need to be clear, readable and understandable.
  • All information and resources should be neat and well organised.

Project 2 Drawing Machine:

  • The drawing part of the machine should be changeable and renewable.
  • The drawing component should be detachable from the machine.
  • The drawing component should be easy to attach to the machine.

Project 3 Blind Sensor Aid:

  • The device needs to be easily audible.
  • The device should only function when it is next to an item.
  • The device should not function unless it is activated by someone.
  • The device needs to be portable.

Project Outcomes/Deliverables

Project 1 ME544 module aid: Webpage/portfolio and presentation. A PowerPoint presentation of the module. Posters about the module and machines involved. Excel spreadsheets. Videos of module.

Project 2 Drawing Machine: Webpage/portfolio and presentation. CAD/Solidworks models

Project 3 Blind Sensor Aid: Webpage/portfolio and presentation on project. A small, handheld device that can detect a specific item and can speak. Some analytical data.

Mapping Learning Outcomes to Projects

here is some photos of my spreadsheet, mapping the learning outcomes to each project.

Download link at the bottom.

Some outcomes do not have any project assigned to them. This is because they are in the other column which means the learning outcome can apply to all the projects or the learning outcome can be completed outside of the projects.
