This is a poem by Veneta Neale, our group member and MA Creative Writing student. The poem “Nothing’s Changed” was written as a response to the 2009 London riots. Inspired by the Godfather of British Dub poetry, Linton Kwesi Johnson and deeply influenced by his poem “The Great Insurrection” about the Brixton Riots in 1981.

I listened to his acceptance speech for the Pinter Prize at the British Library yesterday and it was so wonderful to hear him read some of his poems that I have taught (Reggae fi Dada and New World Order). Anthony, shall we try and get him to come to Brighton (virtually)? It would be amazing! I’ll email you.
