Children’s literature & Covid-19

There have been quite a few announcements in the world of children’s literature over the past few weeks, in response to the outbreak of Covid-19.

Extension of the Children’s Laureate Role

laureate logoBooktrust have announced this morning that Cressida Cowell’s role as Children’s Laureate will be extended to 3 years, due to the Covid-19 epidemic. This is the first time that the role will have been extended beyond 2 years. However, this will really help Cressida Cowell to carry out her ambitions, which were laid out when she took on the role. More information about the extension of the Laureate role is available on Booktrust’s website.

Bookbird: A Journal of International Children’s Literature is now freely available on Project Muse and will remain so until the end of May 2020. This journal, which is published 4 times a year by IBBY, features reading promotion projects, children’s literature awards and children’s literature studies from around the world and is well worth a read.

 

 

 

 

 

Book Award News

The shortlist for the Little Rebels Book Award will now not be revealed until July 2020. The winner will then be announced in September or October 2020.

Similarly, the shortlist for the CLIPPA (Centre for Literacy in Primary Poetry Award) will not be released until children and teachers are back together in the classroom.
