CLiPPA & Foyle Young Poets Award

CLiPPA (Centre for Literacy in Primary Poetry Award) celebrates poetry that has been published for children in the UK and the shortlist for this year’s award was announced last week. Schools can currently register to take part in the CLiPPA Schools Shadowing Scheme. But don’t delay – registration closes this Friday 3rd May. The Shadowing Scheme is a terrific opportunity to get children involved in reading, writing and performing poetry.

Free teaching resources relating to the CLiPPA shortlisted titles will be made available from the 17th of May. Using these resources as inspiration, children can choose a poem to perform and submit a video of their performance. 5 winning groups will then be chosen to perform at the CLiPPA awards ceremony on the 3rd of July at the National Theatre!

Foyle Young Poets Award

For secondary schools, the Foyle Young Poets Award is currently open for submissions. It’s free to enter and the deadline for submissions is the 31st July. There are resources available to guide young poets through the process of writing a poem on the Poetry Society’s website. 100 winners will be announced by the judges at an awards ceremony in October. Last year’s top 15 poems were published in an anthology called The Walls Were Not Big Enough to Hold You.
