The CTSG would like to give a warm welcome to its new PGR Rep for 2024-25, Ömercan Tum!
Please read below for Ömercan’s message to all current PGRs.
Dear all,
I hope this message finds you well.
I’m excited to share that I will be taking on the role of PGR Representative for CTSG this academic year.
A little about me: My name is Ömercan Tüm (you can just call me Ömer—it’s a bit difficult to pronounce at first, I know). I’m a second-year PhD student in the School of Humanities, researching Muslim masculinities in diaspora and contemporary literature. I’ve been a part of CTSG for over a year now, and for many of us, CTSG has been a valuable space to connect, share our research, and strengthen academic bonds.
In my role as PGR Representative, I aim to serve as a bridge between the students and the management board. I will be attending board meetings and providing feedback on behalf of the PGR community. However, I want to emphasise that this role is a collective effort, and I truly need your feedback, opinions, and suggestions to guide me in creating spaces of engagement that reflect the needs and interests of all. Together, we can shape a more supportive and dynamic environment for everyone.
I’d also like to acknowledge the challenges many international PGRs, like myself, may face when doing research in a new environment. This was one of the reasons I initially joined CTSG, to build a supportive network. If there is any way CTSG or I can support you, please feel free to let us know.
Additionally, CTSG is already planning a few exciting events, and we’ll be announcing them soon—stay tuned!
Looking forward to hearing from many of you soon!
Best regards,
Ömercan
