SSHS Visiting Research Fellow (Associate Prof) Markus P Bidell

Dr. Markus Bidell (They/Them; Xe/Xem; He/Him)

Dr. Bidell is a national and international researcher, educator, speaker, and author focusing on LGBTQIA+ affirmative psychotherapy, clinical competence, and public policy. They earned a Doctorate in Clinical/Counseling/School Psychology from the University of California, Santa Barbara. At the City University of New York Graduate Center, Dr. Bidell is a member of the doctoral faculty within the Clinical Neuropsychology Program and an Associate Professor of Counseling at Hunter College. They have over 25 years of clinical, teaching, and supervisory experience within the mental health field. Dr. Bidell’s scholarship focuses on LGBTQIA+ health disparities with an emphasis on clinical competence, cultural humility, and training. Dr. Bidell was the 2014-2015 Regent’s Fulbright Scholar and one of the first queer scholars awarded a Fulbright entirely focused on LGBTQIA+ issues. Dr. Bidell serves on several editorial boards of social science research journals and was recently appointed to the Consulting Elders Council for the Journal of Multicultural Counseling and Development.
