Speakers at the International Network for Knowledge Exchange and Innovation Transfer in Regenerative Medicine and Devices launch event

Professor Joachim Osur

Professor Joachim Osur is the Vice Chancellor at Amref International University. He is a health development professional and academician with wide experience in health programming in Africa. He has supported many African governments in developing health policies and service delivery models that bridge the gap in access between the poor and rich. He is also a researcher with interests in health systems, sexual medicine and reproductive health, and is well published in reputable peer-reviewed journals. Professor Osur holds a bachelor’s degree in medicine and surgery; a master’s in public health; and a PhD in reproductive health. He is also a Fellow of the European Committee on Sexual Medicine.

Professor Rusi Jaspal

Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research and Knowledge Exchange), University of Brighton

Rusi Jaspal is Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research and Knowledge Exchange) and a Professor of Psychology at the University of Brighton. He is responsible for all aspects of research and knowledge exchange development at the University.

Rusi Jaspal studied at the University of Cambridge, University of Surrey and Royal Holloway, University of London. Professor Jaspal’s own research cuts across the fields of psychology and public health, promoting good psychological and physical health outcomes (especially in minority groups).

He is a Chartered Psychologist and Fellow of the British Psychological Society, Academy of Social Sciences, Royal Society of Arts, Royal Society of Public Health and Advance HE. Rusi Jaspal is the author or editor of seven books and has written over 200 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters, and reports for the Department of Health.

Professor Tammary Rotich

Professor Tammary Rotich is the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic and Student Affairs at the Amref International University. Has a Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences and MSc in Human Sexuality Sciences from the University of Leuven, Belgium. Has experience in academia, research and programming is in public health and biomedical sciences, to ensure that quality of care delivery, evidence-based programs and innovative therapies in health care to advance primary health care. She has immense expertise in sexual reproductive health rights (SRHR) and gender-based violence. She is a Secretary General of the African Society for Sexual Medicine, a technical reviewer and editor with the International Society for Sexual Medicine, member International Society for Sexual Medicine Global Outreach committee. Member of ad hoc committee on Professional Education in Sexology/Sexual Health (PES) of the World Association for Sexual Health (WAS) and member Kenya Clinical Officers Association.

Professor Matteo Santin

Director of the Centre for Regenerative Medicine and Devices, University of Brighton

Matteo Santin is Professor of Tissue Regeneration in the School of Applied Sciences at the University of Brighton in the UK and the Director of the Centre for Regenerative Medicine and Devices. He holds a PhD in Biomaterials (University of Naples, Italy) and a PhD in Biomedical Sciences (University of Brighton). He has been internationally recognised by the European Society for Biomaterials (ESB) with the Jean Leray Award (2005), elected member of the ESB board (2009-2013) and ESB President (2013-2017). He is a Fellow of the International Union of Societies for Biomaterials Science and Engineering (IUSBSE), Institute of Materials Minerals and Mining (IOM3) and Advance HE. He is the founder and director of Brighton Wound Care Ltd and Tissue Click Ltd.

He has published over 100 peer-reviewed papers and filed 11 patents applications in the areas of biomaterials and regenerative medicine and implants.

Dr Alice Lakati

Dr Alice Lakati is the Director, Research and Community Extension. She is a seasoned epidemiologist and public health expert with more than 20 years of distinguished performance. She is the pioneer and current Director, Research and Community Extension at Amref International University, affiliate of Amref health Africa. She has led design and implementation of research and evaluations in multiple countries across Africa. She has taught in private and public Universities in Kenya, Uganda, and Ethiopia. She has served in various expert committees including World Health Organization committee that reviewed safe water guidelines in 2005. At Amref International University, she has served in several capacities including acting Vice-Chancellor, founding Dean, School of Public Health, and Graduate School. She is a dynamic, strategic leader and mentor of many young scholars. Her academic qualifications include PhD in Epidemiology and a Master of Applied Epidemiology. She is passionate about education, public health nutrition, community health and the impact of climate change on health.

Dr Leonard Henry Joseph

Senior Lecturer, University of Brighton

Leonard Henry Joseph is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Education, Sports and Health Sciences at the University of Brighton in the UK. Leonard holds a PhD in Biomedical Sciences and is a Fellow of Advance HE. Leonard’s research interests are musculoskeletal conditions, health system strengthening and public health. He supports research development, practice learning and capacity building, tackling global challenges in local communities in various developing countries. Leonard has authored more than 110 publications in peer reviewed journals and holds a patent for a medical device.

Ms. Christine Muya

Ms. Christine Muya is the Head of Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, Amref International University. She is a lecturer and a clinician in physiotherapy. She has experience in physiotherapy training, practice and research. Also, she has complementary experience in Digital Education for the Rehabilitation Sciences. She holds a Bachelor Hons Degree and a Master of Science in Physiotherapy. She is currently pursuing her PhD at Chiang Mai University.

Mr John Owino

Mr. John Owino is the President of Amref International University Student Council. He is a third year Physiotherapy student in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine taking Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy. He is fluent French speaker and he is keen to undertake research/projects in the recent trends in Physiotherapy
