I have always been drawn to an automatic, gestural style of drawing. They are unapologetically crude and do not conform to traditional concepts of structure and composition. I find this to be an honest and intimate portrayal of the human condition.
As time passes I am interested to see if the organic and irregular nature of these techniques can be used to reflect our transition into the visual age. The Digital format is ultimately defined by its regularity and immaterial synthetic nature.
Expressive features-
What if, instead of paint or other ‘conventional’ media , artists like Cy Twombly or Basquiat applied their vibrant character to digital mediums? I aim to explore the capacity for organic expression in the digital format as we inevitably enter our. By considering practical IT programmes/technologies as one might with traditional art materials, I aim to evoke a human irregularity and character to an otherwise harsh synthetic format. I would like to understand the relationship between digital and traditional art processes and what this means for the future of Art History and convention.
