Curtins is a leading consultancy having specialised in the built environment for almost 60 years. Their services include: civil and structural engineering; transport planning; environmental engineering; infrastructure; geotechnical; conservation and heritage and principal designer.
Board member – Irene O’Riordan
Irene graduated from the University of Reading with a BSc in Human Geography in 2008. Since then Irene has gained 11 years’ experience working as a Transport Planner. Irene started her career working as transport planner for a medium transport planning consultancy, primarily focusing on development planning. She was then a project manager and team leader for a traffic survey company before joining the spatial planning team in AECOM.
At AECOM Irene worked on large-scale, UK wide transport and highway projects for clients such as Highways England and Transport for London. Whilst working full time, Irene completed a MSc in Transport Planning and Management from the University of Westminster in Autumn 2017. Irene is now a Principal Transport Planner at Curtins working on a range of private and public-sector projects including the White City masterplan for Imperial College and a million square ft mixed-use development in west London. Irene regularly works with the civil engineering teams to design and resolve highway design issues.
Irene joined the IAB in 2018 to provide a transport/highways perspective and has been a guest lecturer at the University of Brighton.
Board member – George Plant
George graduated from the University of Brighton with an MEng Civil Engineering first class degree and is now a Chartered Civil Engineer (MICE) with 8 years’ experience.
George started his career with two weeks work experience with Network Rail on St Pancras Station redevelopment whilst at school. Following this, prior to University, George completed a 1 year engineering placement with Jacobs on a dual carriageway scheme. This experience encouraged George to pursue a career in Civil Engineering. On completion of his degree, George joined Mott Macdonald as a structural engineer, working initially in the Power division, then in Building Structures. 5 years later George joined Curtins. He is now a Principal Engineer working on a mix of large engineering projects, including a new university building, a 35 storey residential development, a spectator stand and a new hospital.
George has been a member of the IAB since graduating eight years ago from the University of Brighton and has stayed actively involved in the university; helping students with projects, annually reviewing the course content and lecturing.
