Unseen Brighton: Recovering the hidden multicultural history of the University of Brighton and its forerunner institutions

This collaborative archival project, supported by the Centre for Memory, Narrative and Histories and the School of Humanities and Social Science, has started to recover the hidden presence and experience of Black and Asian people, as well as other racialised ethnic minorities – both staff and students – at the University of Brighton and its forerunner institutions, including the Brighton School of Art and the Chelsea College of Physical Education (in Eastbourne).
An exhibition showcasing some early findings from the project can be viewed from Monday 24 October to Friday 28 October in the Atrium, Grand Parade, City Campus. There will be an opportunity to meet some of the PGR researchers involved with this fascinating and rich project about this aspect of the University’s hidden history at 1pm on Thursday 27 October in the Atrium. The project’s website will also be going live that week – link to follow.
