Abstract:

In this talk Robin will outline the main ideas set out in his latest book and will illustrate the argument with examples of bold place-based innovation. Marvin Rees, Mayor of Bristol, who has written a Foreword to the book, is applying these ideas in Bristol. Robin will offer some reflections on the Bristol One City Approach which is an attempt to put New Civic Leadership into practice.

Bio:

Robin Hambleton BA, MA, PhD, MRTPI, FRSA, FAcSS is Emeritus Professor of City Leadership at the University of the West of England (UWE), Bristol and Director of Urban Answers.  His latest book, published by Bristol University Press in October 2020, is Cities and Communities Beyond COVID-19. How local leadership can change our future for the better. In it, he argues that cities and communities can lead the way in promoting recovery strategies that promote social, economic and environmental justice.
