Among the rich collections of the University of Brighton Design Archives is the archive of the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (ICSID), now known as WDO (World Design Organisation). Rich in its documentation of design activities in diverse global regions and contexts, the archive, like that of Icograda (International Council of Graphic Design Associations, now Ico-D), also held at Brighton, continues to facilitate new research which can decentre perspectives and understandings of global design cultures. This event brings together three researchers to share their recent research in the ICSID archive in relation to design in Latin America, and to discuss it with other scholars studying design organisations. The event will focus on the individual research subjects and the way that the particular characteristics of international design organisations’ archives both foreground certain narratives and enable new readings of design’s global histories.
