A Centre for Design History / Design Archives workshop series

All are welcome to join this new series of 90-minute workshops focused on archival research methods and sources. Each session will examine a different source material as its theme.

In each workshop, researchers at different career stages will provide short ‘lightning’ talks on their research, reflecting on their uses of and approaches to the material. This will be followed by group discussion around a shared reading relevant to the theme and a chance to examine historic materials from the Design Archives to test out ideas.

Session 2: Photographs
12:30-2pm, Wednesday 25 May,
Grand Parade, room G4

Following the first session on Magazines, this second session will feature short talks by Professor Darren Newbury and PhD students Kamal Badhey and Jayne Knight.

The advance reading will be:
‘Apartheid Photography in South Africa, 1948-94: An Interview with Darren Newbury’, in Penny Tinkler, Using Photographs in Social and Historical Research, Sage, 2013, pp. 90-94.

All welcome – Please RSVP by 18 May via email at CentreforDesignHistory@brighton.ac.uk and a copy of the reading will be sent to you.
