For this project, we had to create a stop motion video  using one of the texts provided that lasted approximately 1min and 30 seconds.

During class, we got into small groups to experiment with stop motion and creating a short story based on a figure we had brought in. Our team had a small dinosaur figurine and revolved the narrative around that. We created a story where the dinosaur is running from lava from a volcano.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

We created the shapes of the props from cardboard, a sky with clouds on white cardboard. We used natural objects such as leaves for the trees and rocks for the ground that we found outdoors.

The volcano was made from three pieces of cardboard cut into triangle shapes and glued together. The lava was created using ripped up orange card and the smoke was cotton wool balls.
We used a small tripod and an iPhone to create the stop motion using a stop motion app.

 

   

 

 

 

 

This task was helpful to understanding stop motion and what can be used as props, as well as how slow/quick you need to move items to make them look fluid or jumpy.

 

 

For my own stop motion video, I had to create a story board, characters and set design.
I decided to revert back to my first text, ‘A natural Disaster’ as this could be open to a lot of interpretation.

 

 

 

 

I created a mind map of ideas for my stop motion ranging from scene ideas, colours and characters. Adding quotes to help link the ideas.

After this I knew I wanted to work with the characters being ghosts as this was more unique and interesting.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I made  story board for the first scene in the kitchen (Blurry quality unfortunately)

In the scene there is a flooded kitchen with a window showing rain. Then a ghost appears from the flooded ground, getting larger. It then looks at a small image of some humans and says ‘I miss you’ and then disappears back in the ground.

 

Notes:
1) what will make the water?
2) What will the ghost be made from ?
2.1) how will the ghost float and become bigger?
3) How will I create a text box?
