Poster Books – Project 1

This first piece(below) is a large scale poster book that incorporates all the themes from the project as well as the 6 photographs.

I decided to make this piece a whole poster rather than small individual pieces for each section of the book but once the book is folded, the pages do show the different areas of the poster in more depth.

I wanted the viewer to jump from area to area and see different things every time, it’s very chaotic but in a purposeful way.

There are some little female silhouette figures in the corner of the page. These are inspired by an object from  a collection because as a child I collected barbie dolls and Polly pockets and I accumulated hundreds. I created a stencil which was inspired by the systematic area of the project. I drew inside the stencil using harsh mark making, and used ink to brush inside the stencil. After I was finished with the stencil I cut it out and stuck that onto the page as well.

in the centre of the page there are large overlapping structures that I created using ink and detailing with a large ink marker.

This is a page from the poster book which includes my inspirational person from my photographs, combined with one line drawing and natural forces from the ‘Drawing upon Inspiration’ tasks.

The inspirational person I chose was my girlfriend, because she has gone through lots of hard times and come out on top and has got to university and working well on her life. I used a black marker pen for the initial one line drawing, and sketched a portrait with raindrops falling down to involve the natural forces. I then emphasised the raindrops with a blue marker and another one line drawing.

For this page of the poster book, I decided to move from my comfort of portraits and do some buildings and architecture. I used the ‘ meaningful place’ reference photograph which was an image of my old house that I have some many memories in, good and bad. I did different angles and viewpoints for the buildings such as a face on view and a side on view. As well as a chimney on the edge of the page. I used red and black ink and added extra details with a black/blue marker and a fine liner. I also decided to create lots of bricks which links to the pattern recognition

This page follows on from the pattern recognition and meaningful place. I kept the pattern of the bricks as the background and added an inky window, highlighted with a black marker.

I created this spider with  only ink, and no detail or sketching with a marker. This spider is related to what animal would I want to be. I chose spiders because I think they’re misunderstood and actually very necessary to have in your living spaces. I also have massive spiders in my bedroom as my room is in the basement, so I have plenty of photographs of huge and scary looking spider. I decided to also drip some red ink from the top of the page which looks like blood to create a more eerie appearance.

Here is added ‘Human Traces’

I put red ink on my hands and printed these onto the page, which kind of looks like blood hand prints.
I highlighted the hands by outlining them in black.  I added a bold text of ‘Don’t Fucking Touch Me!’ as it responds well in addition to hands and touching things.
