Call for Submissions

The 1st Carnival of Invention: Art and Research for Social Action
University of Brighton, Falmer Campus, Friday 15th June 2018

We are now inviting submissions for the inaugural conference of the Collaborative Poetics Network. This event is aimed at: academics and doctoral students from the social sciences, arts, humanities, business and beyond; arts practitioners, including poets, visual artists, theatre practitioners and comedians; and members of community/third sector organisations. Representatives of all of these groups are welcome to submit applications to present at the Carnival. This event is an opportunity for us to share our ideas, resources, experiences, and ways of working, with regard to participatory and arts-based research/interventions. We are especially interested in projects and methods which strive for social change and social justice.

Session Submissions
Sessions can take the form of performances, workshops, presentations, discussions, debates, network events, panel discussions, or other knowledge/skill exchange activities. We are particularly keen to encourage innovative and creative forms of presentation, which break out of the ‘chalk-and-talk’ mode that typically dominates conferences, and to encourage submissions from groups who are under-represented at academic conferences. Sessions are 20 or 60 minutes long, with longer slots reserved for more innovative and interactive formats, and for sessions with multiple presenters

Poster Submissions
Posters should be printed on A0 paper, but there are no restrictions as to how they should be structured within this. Presenters are expected to attend the Carnival and be available to discuss their poster during a timetabled sessions on the day. Posters should speak to the conference themes laid out above.
