Why did you apply to Legal & General?

I applied to Legal & General because of our commitment to Inclusive Capitalism, meaning we operate with the objective of generating shareholder returns and tackling inequality, by making sustainable investments which we know will make a difference.

Our aim is to build a stronger, more positive society by making a genuine societal and environmental impact that really lasts and keeps proving.

What role did you apply for and why?

I applied for a graduate role in HR because it’s a role which heavily involves working with people to solve complex workplace issues to improve employee relationships and productivity. As part of this rotational programme, I get to experience working in 4 different teams which will give me a holistic understanding of HR at Legal & General which excites me.

What is the culture like at Legal & General?

At Legal & General, our colleagues truly embody our values which are to be collaborative, purposeful, and straightforward. As a result, all employees are treated with respect and integrity, providing them with the opportunity to learn and grow within the organisation. We have a diverse workforce which celebrates all festivals, religions, and ethnicities. Finally, we have 8 employee resource groups to help employees support initiatives they are passionate about such as Socio-Economic Mobility, Health & Wellbeing, Neurodiversity and many more.

What was the application process like?

Firstly, I had to submit an online application which involved submitting my CV. After this, I was invited to complete the online assessments which tested my analytical ability and how my strengths aligned with the L&G values which are collaborative, purposeful, and straightforward. The next stage was the online video interview where I was asked to respond to several prerecorded questions, before being invited to the assessment centre. The assessment centre includes a group exercise, an individual presentation, and a final round interview.

What type of support do you receive on the Graduate Programme?

The graduate programme starts with a firmwide induction, giving you the chance to meet your graduate cohort. After the induction, we receive role specific training and are also given the opportunity to complete professional qualifications which gives us the training and knowledge to optimise our performance. This includes qualifications such as the IMC, CFA, ACA, CIMA, ACCA, RICS, CIPD and many more. We are also assigned a buddy and a mentor upon joining who can help us to settle into the organisation.
