Meet Active Student, the University’s volunteering service

Welcoming all our new and returning students!

We are Active Student, the university’s volunteering service.

We support students like you to find and apply for rewarding, safe and supported volunteering opportunities in the local community, across Brighton and Hove, Eastbourne and beyond in Sussex.

We also support community engagement degree-based placements as part of the curriculum, a big part of our role at the university.

Brighton, Eastbourne and the rest of Sussex has a vast cross-section of community sector organisations that support the local area bringing you a wealth of potential opportunities to get involved in.

Are you interested in health and social care, marketing, arts and heritage, business development and planning, environment, teaching or sports (the list goes on)…? Then we have something for you. Whether it’s to complement your degree or just doing something totally different.

Opportunities we offer:

  • short-term volunteering
  • long-term volunteering
  • one-off volunteering
  • holiday volunteering
  • a-few-hours-a-week volunteering
  • one day events volunteering

There are a lot of options and usually something to fit you…

Volunteering and community-based placements are not only brilliant for adding to your CV and supporting you to gain new skills, experience and importantly, employability potential. You also get the opportunity to meet new people, get involved in your local community or ‘feel part of it’, connect and be social and get that ‘Belong at Brighton’ feeling.

We look forward to hearing from you!
